 Tell us about your internship – what kind of work did you do? What did you find rewarding?

I worked at the House of Representatives in Representative Mike Thompson's office. I did research, looked for news articles that included his name, called congressmembers' offices to encourage them to sign bills. In addition, I spoke with constituents, conducted administrative work, attended congressional hearings to ascertain information on propose bills, and give constituent Capitol tours! What I found rewarding was being a part of gun violence prevention bills and seeing the bills being mentioned in hopes of passing as law.

Have your career or life goals changed as a result of your internship? If so, how? 

Yes, I am more confident in what I want to do regarding my career. I enjoy making in difference at the nation's capitol. I want to get into politics in hopes of making a difference. 

Share an exciting memory from your internship – something unexpected, an accomplishment, someone you met. 

Working for Congressman Mike Thompson, founder of the Wine Caucus, was memorable itself. In one event, I was on shift to regulate the guest list. When I was relieved from my shift, I was invited to attend the event. I was able to talk to inspiring congressmembers including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as well as Current Speaker Kevin McCarthy. 

Did your internship lead to any opportunities?

Most likely, I will continue to intern for Mike Thompson's Woodland office. 

Share a memory about something special you did in Washington. 

I took advantage of every touring opportunity here. I love most things here are free to attend. My favorite activity was taking walks at night to the White House, The Washington Monument, and Lincoln Memorial.

How has living in the nation's capital for a quarter changed you?

I have become more independent. I am more comfortable in traveling and living on my own, learning how to transport myself within the city, and manage time and finances!
