Tell us about your internships - what kind of work did you do?

Both internships were both equally rewarding for me. The political violence lab gave me the opportunity to do actual research on topics that openly effect the world we live in. The most rewarding aspect of the political violence lab was that all of our research  and data entry led to a research paper with my name on it. The Congressmen's office gave me a good opportunity to see the work that staffers do every single day. Learning more in depth about the inner workings of the House of Representatives has opened my eyes to a lot of the unwritten rules that each staffer follows.

Have your career goals changed as a result of your internship?

Interning at the House of Representatives has given me a better understanding that I want to work at an office that I am able to represent the community I live in on a larger scale.

Tell us about an exciting memory from your internship!

I think one of the most exciting memory from my internship was the exploring I was able to do. Being an intern for the House of Representatives allowed me to sit in on media briefings that were not open to the public. It also allowed me to explore parts of the Capitol that is not usually open to the public.

Share a story about something special you did in Washington!

One of the events that was special was the Smithsonian’s Summer Solstice event. A chance to go to the museums after dark was truly an amazing experience. Especially with all of the special events that they held, especially the rave in the castle!

How has living in the nation's capital for a quarter changed you?

Living in the nation's capital for this summer session has changed me to be more of a business focused person. Staying on a schedule every single day is properly preparing me for the workforce!

What advice would you like to share with future UCDC participants?

Do everything that you want to do. While it may seem like you have a long time in DC, it truthfully will go faster than you think. Make a plan to do one to two things a week so you can do every bucket list DC activity you have!
