Petition for Housing Contract Release
Below you will find information pertaining to the process to be released from your UCDC housing contract. The contract you signed, and are currently entered into, is a legally binding contract. All UC Davis Washington Program participants’ housing contracts are for a full quarter unless you previously opted to extend your contract for a longer period. Under extreme circumstances, we do allow for a release from your contract. To be eligible for housing contract release, there must have been an unforeseen and significant change in your life since your contract was signed that prevents you from upholding your obligation under the contract.
Please note that financial hardship, a different opportunity, or a change of mind does not warrant release from the contract.
Administrative Review Process
Before submitting a formal written statement to the Washington Program, participants should communicate or meet with the Washington Program Director to discuss concerns.
1. The participant must submit a formal written statement requesting a contract release to firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. The written statement must include the following:
- A description of the participant’s reasons for making the request and enumerate steps the participant has made to improve the situation in order to meet contractual obligations.
- All supporting documentation.
- Participant’s full name and student ID.
- Participating Quarter (ex. Spring 2018).
3. When complete, submit all materials by email to email@example.com or by US mail to:
University of California, Davis
ATTN: Cheryl Purifoy
The Grove, Room 1350
Davis, California 95616
The Washington Program Director will make a decision as to whether or not the participant is to be released from the contract after carefully reviewing submitted information. The terms and conditions of the Washington DC housing contract will also be taken into consideration. Please note that approval is NOT guaranteed. The decision will be sent to your UC Davis email account within a week. All decisions regarding the petition for housing contract release are final.
If your petition is denied, you may have the option to submit an appeal. Appeals for petition denials will only be considered if the participant is able to provide additional information that was not been provided in the original petition. If you have any further questions, please contact Washington Program Director Cheryl Purifoy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
