Internship: National Immigration Forum
Participated: Summer 2024

Tell us about your internship- what kind of work did you do? What did you find rewarding?
I worked at the Forum as a field and constituencies intern, working with moderate to right leaning communities in law enforcement and faith groups to educate them on immigration. We equip them with the tools to reach out to their communities and create a culture of bipartisan immigration reform. I found it rewarding to see people be open minded and learn, and to feel that genuine change is truly possible.
Have your career or life goals changed as a result of your internship? If so, how?
I think that when I came into the internship I thought I was not as interested in politics as I used to be (as I am not a poli sci major), but my desire to be in the field came back to me as I spent more time here.
Tell us about an exciting memory from your internship!
We started working on a bill with two congresspeople in moderate dem and Republican districts for bipartisan immigration legislation. Then we worked with many people in congress to make it happen. Additionally, I met many people who worked in high positions during the Bush and Obama administration through our national security task force.

Did your internship lead to any opportunities?
I have made a lot of connections through my internship, and they have told me there will always be a place for me at the forum. It is a place that I would be interested in working at when I graduate.
How has living in the nation's capital for a quarter changed you?
I have realized that I want to live in a city when I finish college, whether that be grad school in a city or finding a job here. I have learned better budgeting skills and how to network.
What is one piece of advice that you have for future UCDC students?
Put yourself out there! Get to know people in the program and at your internship, and try to say yes to as many things as possible while you are here. Time is limited and the stories will last forever!
