• Internship: Congressman Mike Thompson

Tell us about your internship – what kind of work did you do? What did you find rewarding?

I enjoyed my time on Capitol Hill! Lots of the work I did involved Policy Research and Analysis, Constituent Outreach, and Legislative Support. 

Share an exciting memory from your internship – something unexpected, an accomplishment, someone you met.

Being able to enjoy the eclipse during my internship while also networking with the staff members in my office helped build trust and future connection to help me succeed. Yet also being able to meet other interns was also very impactful during my time here.

Have your career or life goals changed as a result of your internship? If so, how?

It has not changed my plans but being part of an internship which helps me adjust to a very professional environment defiantly has prepared me for the future to my career to become an attorney one day.

Share a story about something special you did in Washington – an event you attended, a place you went, an exciting talk, etc. 

Being able to explore the city and explore other places like New York made my internship experience 100 times better. Not only did this help me with stress release but motivated me through the weekdays to work harder and then enjoy weekends. 

How has living in the nation's capital for a quarter changed you?

It has made me a more independent individual, responsible, had encouraged me to be more organized and better my time management skills and has definitely made me a better student, friend, and person who can now adjust to any environment without feeling home sick or the feeling of lack of family support.

Do you have any advice for future UCDC students?

Remember that this is opportunity that will make you a better person and will also build your character for the future preparing you for your job. Not only will you enjoy the city and your time here but will also test your abilities while also growing.
