I am a fourth-year managerial economics major. I was the Government and Advocacy Affairs intern at the National Head Start Association during the Winter 2018 quarter. I learned about the influence non-profits have on policy-making, gained skills in data collection, and went on Capitol Hill visits to lobby for early childhood education with California’s senators and representatives. Discovering Washington D.C. through after-work runs around the White House and National Mall made me fall in love with the city. Meeting like-minded people involved in different aspects of the policy hub of America solidified my desire to work in policy-making. As a Student Assistant, I enjoy encouraging other students to step outside their comfort zones and take a chance on D.C. I look forward to helping more students discover their strength and apply them to real-life experiences in D.C.
