Course information

The Washington Program will register you for your internship, core seminar course, and optional elective units. Please make sure to meet with your major advisor to see how the Washington Program will fit into your academic plan.

Academic Year Program (Fall, Winter, Spring Quarter)

  • Academic Year Mandatory & Optional Courses
  • Mandatory Courses

    1) Internship (8 units): Students work three-four days per week (24-32 hours). This leaves time for academic courses or research projects. Pass/No Pass Option Only. The units will show as WAS192 units on your transcript.

    2) Core Seminar Course (4 units): Students enroll in one upper-division core seminar course designed to put the internship in a scholastic framework. Please make sure to meet with your major advisor to see if you are able to receive course equivalency for the course to count toward your major. The core seminar is for a Letter Grade Only (you may not opt for pass/no pass). Students can choose whether these units show up as POL193W or WAS193 on your transcript.

    Placeholder Units
Prior to completion of the Washington Program, the units will appear as placeholder units in your account like this:

After you complete the program, the units will be converted to the appropriate units and unit values (WAS192, POL193W or WAS193).

    Optional Course

    1) Quarter Elective Course (4 units): Students have the option to enroll in an optional upper-division elective course offered by the UCDC Center. The UC Washington Center offers a wide range of electives taught by faculty and local experts. Course offerings vary from term to term.

    UC Davis Campus Courses

For the remote program only, you have the option to take courses offered by the UC Davis campus simultaneously in addition to the mandatory courses (12 units) required by the program. This is recommended for students required to take a course during a given quarter to fulfill graduation requirements.

The in-person program has the same mandatory internship and core seminar course requirement, however, you are not able to take courses offered by the UC Davis campus simultaneously. You are able to sign up for the optional Quarter Elective Course.

Summer Program (Summer Quarter Only)

  • Summer Program Credit vs. Non-Credit Option
  • Credit Option
The credit option allows students to enroll for up to 8 internship units. Just as on campus, tuition cost for summer units is based on a per-credit cost and additional application fees may apply. NOTE: Research seminars are NOT offered during the summer.

    OR
    Non-Credit Option

The non-credit option (internship only) has no enrollment fee. Students do not earn academic credit, but can receive transcript notation for their internship. Students who select the non-credit option cannot receive financial aid.

    UC Davis Campus Courses

If the summer program is remote, you have the option to take UC Davis summer session courses simultaneously with your internship. If the summer program is in person, you will not be able to take courses offered by the UC Davis Campus simultaneously.

How do I sign up for my courses?

  • Course Enrollment Instructions
  • Upon acceptance into the program, you will not need to sign up for any courses during any of your pass times if you are only pursuing the Washington Program. If you are planning to take UC Davis campus courses simultaneously with the Washington Program which is only applicable to the remote program, then you would sign up for those courses as you normally would.
