Academic Information
Option 1: Academic Course and Internship
Political Science 192W: UC Davis Washington Program Internship Course
7 units, Grading is P/NP
Students earn 7 units of academic credit through weekly class meetings, written assignments and work at an internship. The Summer Sessions fee to take the class will be approximately $1100. The exact value will be forwarded to you when it becomes available. The 10-week course will draw on students’ internships as a basis for its focus on the intersection of public policy and organizational behavior. The course asks students to observe the internship organization and evaluate its structure, goals, strategies, and decision-making process. Grading for this course is on a P/NP basis. Students must fulfill the requirements of their internship (receive a passing evaluation from their internship supervisor) and receive a passing grade in the academic component to receive P/NP credit. Students may also receive transcript notation. Students selecting this option work 4 days per week in their internships.
Eligible students who wish to continue receiving financial aid while in Washington DC MUST enroll on POL 192W.
NOTE: Travel, housing and living expenses are not included in the Summer Sessions fee.

Finding an Internship
The UC Davis Washington Program, located in the Internship and Career Center in South Hall, has a library of reference books and a database that provides information on hundreds of internships and descriptions of the organizations that offer them. In many cases, the Program has evaluations of internships written by past Davis students. Washington Program staff and student alumni of the Program can answer questions, provide advice, and assist with applications.
Searchable and downloadable Master Lists of internship opportunities, organized alphabetically, by Major, and by interest area are available electronically here and in hard copy in 223 South Hall. Evaluations are also available in 223 South Hall

*DO NOT say "yes" to an internship offer unless you mean to take the offer. If you are not sure, ask for time to decide and consult with us. It is strictly against program policy for students to accept an internship and then later decline it in favor of a different offer.
