FAQs

What are the qualifications/requirements to apply?
  • Students must be registered at UC Davis as a full time student during their quarter in DC.
    • Exception: Seniors graduating in June may apply for the summer quarter directly following graduation. More information for graduating seniors can be found here.
  • Junior or Senior status PREFERRED, but not required (89.9+ units prior to the quarter of their participation).
    • We have had several exceptional sophomores participate in the program.
  • Preferred applicants will have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Applicants who have a GPA below a 3.0 however, will still be considered.
  • Summer term: Open to DOMESTIC applicants only. International applicants in the Education Abroad Program (EAP) may still apply for fall, winter, and spring terms (see criteria for domestic and international students).
What goes into our admission decision?
Decision chart

We give careful consideration to all the credentials presented by the applicant. We seek to determine if the applicant has not only the academic qualifications for admission, but also the skills and experiences that facilitate a successful internship experience in DC. This holistic approach ensures no single factor leads to either accepting the student or excluding the student from admission. The value in this approach is the opportunity to recognize that an applicant’s strength in one area might offset a weakness in another. By carefully weighing strengths, achievements, and the ways in which an applicant might contribute, we increase the likelihood that we will offer admission to those most likely to succeed.

I am writing my application essay, which is structured like a cover letter. What resources are available to make sure that I write the best cover letter possible?

We provide several resources for writing cover letters. They are designed for students applying for internships, but the same principals apply for a cover letter for our program.

The ICC also provides great resources:
